The text tells the story of five overweight childen in an institution in the mountains. The absent Dr. Bärfuss has set clear rules regarding the “cure” that will help the little ones lose weight and become real humans again. All are trusting in the arrival of the doctor who will test the success of the cure and allow them to return home.
With Seymour, Anne Lepper has written a distorted parable. These children, with whom we have no connection at the beginning, become typical victims of modern existence. While tortured with doubtful instructions and healing promises, they drag themselves along a road that they suspect will never take them to their goal, all the while embittering each other’s lives. At the same time, the fate of those who are “selected” shows that the simplest things of which these children have been deprived can be sources of great joy.
