POLITICAL PORNOGRAPHY – THE HUNGARIAN THEATRE OF CLUJ PREMIERES ANDRÁS VISKY’S PORNO – THE STORY OF MY WIFE

The Hungarian Theatre of Cluj will present András Visky’s documentary-play Porno – The Story of My Wife on Wednesday, September 16, at 8 pm, on the Someş river bank. A co-production between the Hungarian Theatre of Cluj and the Gyula Castle Theatre, directed by Árpád Árkosi, it had its Hungarian premiere on August 1, within the Gyula Castle Theatre’s Erdélyi Hét [Transylvanian Week] event series.

András Visky stated the following about the work’s creation: “The play also became a metaphor for the 1989 Revolution for me. I really believe that for a lot of people, including myself, this event was a turning point, but it still didn’t permeate our entire society, which thus appears to me as a stillborn baby. We are all pregnant with the idea, the ideal of the revolution, like a mother in a blessed state, we should be able to birth the idea of freedom.”

It’s about a woman who loses her child, who loses the man who is the father of her child, so one could say she loses everything. Yet she is a perpetual survivor” – says Éva Imre about the character she has portrayed.

The production returned from the XXXII edition of the Kisvárda Festival of Hungarian Theatres with two awards: Árpád Árkosi, won the award for Best director from the Ministry of Human Resources, while Éva Imre won the Mayor of Kisvárda’s award for her portrayal in the production.

The cast of the performance are: Éva Imre and Ferenc Sinkó, as well as András Visky.

The creative team includes director Árpád Árkosi; set and costume designer Gyopár Bocskai; composer Tibor Cári; stage movement coach Ferenc Sinkó and assistant director Alpár Fogarasi.

Following the premiere, the performance will also be presented on September 17, at 8 pm, on the Someş river bank.

On September 21, on the Anniversary of Hungarian Drama, the production will take place at 8 pm, in the Studio Hall. Following the performance, the Hungarian Theatre of Cluj ends this special celebration with the latest edition of the Színházfórum, namely a discussion with creators András Visky and Árpád Árkosi, hosted by poet Noémi László.
