CELEBRATING THE DAY OF HUNGARIAN CULTURE WITH GIZELLA KICSID'S EVENING OF PILINSZKY POEMS AT THE HUNGARIAN THEATRE OF CLUJ

On Saturday, 22 January at 8 pm, on the occasion of the Hungarian Day of Culture, Gizella Kicsid's performance entitled Belated Mercy will be presented in the Studio Hall of the Hungarian Theatre of Cluj. The performance is composed of the poems of János Pilinszky and performed by Gizella Kicsid, with Zoltán Horváth at the piano.

The performance, entitled Belated Mercy, was created in the framework of the Pilinszky 100 memorial year and explores the nature of man struggling within his own existence, by addressing three themes: War, Love, God. And although Pilinszky's poems about God form the third pillar of the performance, the question of "Does redemption exist?" permeates Pilinszky's entire poetry. The inescapability of dialoguing with God, even in our science-fuelled world, reappears from time to time throughout our lives, as does Pilinszky's poetry. Pilinszky himself writes in his Ars Poetica helyett (Instead of an Ars Poetica), that "God, exiled from facts, from time to time bleeds through the fabric of history." Gizella Kicsid's eve of Pilinszky poems, infused with Bach's musicality and in her own personal tone, seeks to find in Pilinszky's lines a dialogue between God and the abandoned man.

The production was supported by the Consulate General of Hungary in Cluj-Napoca.

Tickets for the performance of Belated Mercy are available at the theatre’s ticket office (weekdays between 10 am and 2 pm) and online at www.biletmaster.ro.
