Starting from January, the Hungarian Theatre of Cluj production of Hamlet that premiered in the 2021/2022 season and was staged by Gábor Tompa, will once again return to the theatre's programme. Hamlet will be performed for the first time this year on Saturday, January 11 at 7 pm in the theatre's Main Hall. Additional performances will take place on January 29 and February 28, both at 7 pm.
The production stars guest actor Miklós Vecsei H. Vecsei, who is also known to audiences for his title role in the film Semmelweis. The role of Gertrude will be played by Enikő Györgyjakab starting in January.
“You can't help but love Hamlet, as Miklós Vecsei H. brings him to the stage. He juggles emotions and moods as fast as moves, with breathtaking speed. In a few steps he is crossing the stage, getting from one corner to the other, now weaving plots, the next moment meditating, etc. A very, very special actor with a unique ability to use emotion and intelligence in equal measure.” – writes Nona Rapotan about the production.
The production of Hamlet, directed by Gábor Tompa, has been performed at three festivals so far: the 32nd National Theatre Festival in Bucharest, the 8th Interferences International Theatre Festival in Cluj and the 8th Madách International Theatre Encounter in Budapest.
The title role will be played by guest actor Miklós H. Vecsei, with an ensemble cast made up of Ervin Szűcs, Enikő Györgyjakab, Balázs Bodolai, Zsolt Gedő, András Buzási, Ferenc Sinkó, Zsuzsa Tőtszegi, József Bíró, Tamás Kiss, Éva Imre, Anikó Pethő, Szabolcs Balla, Gizella Kicsid, Gáspár Pászka, Venczel Lőrincz-Szabó, Édua Szabó / Tekla Szabó.
The production is directed by Gábor Tompa, the creative team also including set designer András Both, costume designer Bianca Imelda Jeremias, dramaturg András Visky, composer Vasile Șirli, choreographer Melinda Jakab, video designer András Rancz and Gyopár Bocskai, assistant costume designer.
