The 9th edition of the Interferences International Theatre Festival is nearing its end, which has so far featured performances by national and international directors such as Gábor Rusznyák, Gábor Tompa, Sardar Tagirvosky, Sebestyén Aba, Chris Simion-Mercurian, Ivan Dobchev, Attila Vidnyánszky Jr., Mihai Măniuțiu, Attila Egerházi, Carmen Lidia Vidu or Nataša Radulović, as well as concerts by Sascha Bota and Annelie Gahl, internationally renowned violinists.
But the programme doesn't end there, as the Interferences Festival awaits audiences with special events for the coming days. Additional performances, round-table discussions, book launches and panel discussions will make for a memorable experience for all participants.
On Friday, November 15, at 7 pm, the guest performance of the Vígszínház entitled The One Who Has Nobody Under the Blue Skies will take place. The production will be performed for the last time ever here in Cluj is directed by Attila Vidnyánszky Jr. and stars Géza Hegedűs D. in the leading role.
“Unusual, astonishing, funny, thought-provoking and poignant, the story is based on contemporary writings, letters and diary entries. This time, the life story of our nation’s great poet is presented in an unusual way, not at all textbook-like, and we get to know a completely different Arany János, not just the big mustache and kindly figure whose face is seen in books. There is no pathos in the performance, but it is full of youthful verve, humorous allusions and references, and it is surprisingly topical.” - writes Edit Brezvai about the performance.
On Saturday, November 16, there will be two book launches held in the upstairs foyer of the theatre: the presentation of András Visky's book of dramas, A test történetei [Stories of the Body,] will take place at 11 am. The discussion will be moderated by Vera Prontvai, adjunct professor at the Károli Gáspár Reformed University. Following this, from 12:30 pm, audiences will have the chance to discover the latest publications of the Camil Petrescu Cultural Association.
Also on November 16, at 8 pm, the latest dance-theatre performance by choreographer Josef Nadj, Full Moon, will be presented in the theatre's Main Hall.
What movements existed before dance was born? And what existed before the idea of dance itself? In a contemporary, jazz-inspired ritual, seven dancers, accompanied by a lone marionette, embark on a journey of discovery into the roots of gesture. Josef Nadj brings back to the stage the dance ensemble he made famous in his previous work, Omma, all of whom come from West Africa (Congo, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Mali and Côte d'Ivoire).
Coproduction: Montpellier Danse | Le Trident – Scène nationale de Cherbourg-en-Cotentin | MC93 – Maison de la Culture de Seine-Saint-Denis à Bobigny | Charleroi Danse, Centre Chorégraphique de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles | Tropiques Atrium Scène Nationale, Fort-de-France | Théâtre des Salins, Scène Nationale de Martigues | Le Théâtre d’Arles
On Sunday 17 November, from 11 am, a round table discussion will take place in the upstairs foyer of the theatre, where theatre historian Adrienne Darvay Nagy will talk to director Gábor Tompa and the actors who graduated 30 years ago in Târgu Mureş.
Also on November 17, at 7 pm, a stage adaptation of Mikhail Bulgakov's popular novel The Master and Margarita directed by Nona Ciobanu will be performed in the theatre's Main Hall. The production is a guest production of the Slovenian National Theatre in Nova Gorica.
“What do we love more, truth or power? What happens on the days when the devil decides to visit Moscow? As a preacher of good, as a restorer of truth and morality? Like Faust, his mistress Margarita, decided to sell her soul to the devil and thus save him. ‘Manuscripts don't burn.’ Truth, great literature, art, says Bulgakov, cannot be destroyed. They survive critics, censors, and time.” - remarks Nona Ciobanu, director of the production.
