Interferences in its second week features local creators, a double violin concert, a book launch and a round table discussion

The 9th Interferences International Theatre Festival is now in its second week, but the next few days will continue to offer theatre lovers a colourful and diverse programme. Festival visitors can continue to enjoy two exhibitions in the upstairs lobby for another four days, in addition to a book launch and a concert. The upcoming days will include performances by well-known local creators such as Gábor Tompa, Sardar Tagirovsky and Sebestyén Aba, as well as international virtuosos such as Annelie Gahl and Sacha Bota.

On Sunday, November 10, at 7 pm, the production of Rasputin directed by Sardar Tagirovsky will be performed in the theatre's Main Hall by the Harag György Company of the Northern Theatre of Satu Mare.

Géza Szőcs' drama is a historical vision of our collective European and global conscience. It focuses on historical reality through the fictional filter of Rasputin. This work of fiction is the last refuge of passionate human survival in the apocalyptic forest of humanity.

On Monday, November 11, from 6 pm and 7:30 pm, respectively, Sacha Bota and Annelie Gahl, the internationally acclaimed violinists, will perform Say the Song in the Studio, a special treat for classical music enthusiasts. The evening will focus on the 44 duos by Béla Bartók, with the two artists paying special attention to the rhetorical and expressive nature of the sound. In this work, Bartók combines classical compositional methods with the raw, authentic sound of Eastern European folk music in a new way. The musical experience is enriched by a video recording of the four-part structure of Bartók's 44 duos: historical film clips, excerpts from Bartók's field recordings and photographs of the composer himself create a dreamlike visual effect that further enhances the concert's atmosphere.

On Tuesday November 12, at 1 pm, in the upstairs foyer of the theatre, members of the public can attend the book launch of Gábor Tompa's latest poetry collection. Zsolt Karácsonyi, editor-in-chief of the Helikon literary magazine, will be in conversation with the author about the book of poems entitled Hamlet homloka (Hamlet's Forehead).

Also on November 12, from 5 pm and 9 pm, respectively, a joint production of the Tompa Miklós Tompa Company and Yorick Studio of the National Theatre of Târgu Mureș can be seen in the Studio Hall. The stage adaptation of Attila Bódi's novel I Wanted to Rebel with You is directed by Sebestyén Aba.

The story is set in the last weeks of the Ceaușescu dictatorship. The author shows us the deepest and darkest recesses of this hopeless period through the eyes of adolescents, the most vulnerable age group. Three boys, about to graduate from high school, rebel against the scarcity of life and take anti-establishment action. Thirty years later, they are forced to face the real consequences of their actions at a class reunion.

On Wednesday 13 November, at 7 pm, audiences can enjoy William Shakespeare's comedy As You Like It, directed by Gábor Tompa. The production is a guest performance of the Stoyan Bachvarov State Theatre of Varna.

"Can we turn our backs on an unjust society and its rulers? Is escaping to the Ardennes forest a solution? The freedom of nature and the freedom of theatre is celebrated by the characters of Shakespeare's comedy As You Like It. In Gábor Tompa’s performance love empowers the souls and bodies, art liberates, and nature heals. The identity game is in full swing, but is it safe?" - asks Aglika Oltean, the dramaturg of the production.

On Thursday, November 14, at 11 am, in connection with the theme of this year's Interferences, in the upstairs foyer of the theatre, Dr. Marian Popescu, university lecturer will hold a lecture on the 35 years. Theatre in Romania after Censorship, followed by a round table discussion with Gábor Tompa, Marian Popescu, Adrienne Darvay Nagy, Anca Măniuţiu and Crenguța Manea.

Also on November 14, at 7 pm, in the Main hall of the Lucian Blaga National Theatre in Cluj, you will have another opportunity to see Eugène Ionesco's absurdist drama A Stroll in the Air, directed by Gábor Tompa and performed by the Romanian company of Cluj.

"Gábor Tompa, together with his artistic team, transforms Ionesco's text in a musical score, playing both physically and vocally with the rhythm, the choral harmony, dissonance, and syncope, in poetic swings, oscillations, and leaps. The play is thus brought to the fore again, after being unjustly forgotten for so long, just like the characters – and, implicitly, we – have forgotten how to fly. Because who believes in poets anymore? And what are our ideals today?" - writes Ștefana Pop-Curșeu in the synopsis of the production.
