The Interferences International Theatre Festival continues to offer theatre lovers outstanding productions during its 9th edition currently taking place in Cluj. In the coming days, audiences will be able to enjoy works by classic authors such as Thomas Bernhard, Alexander Pushkin, Albert Camus, Eugène Ionesco and Henrik Ibsen. But they will also be able to see contemporary productions such as Romanian Diary. Timișoara, which presents a unique perspective on Timișoara's past through the life stories of the actresses featured in the performance, or the dance performance Butterflies & Minute by Minute, which incorporates classical and contemporary texts as well.
On Wednesday, November 6, at 7 pm, the production The Loser, directed by Nataša Radulović, will be performed in the Studio Hall by the Yugoslav Drama Theatre from Serbia.
“Is there an absolute perfection? What is its price? Is it possible to reach it without losing ourselves in the attempt? Interweaving the story of the legendary pianist Glenn Gould with the famous rivalry between Mozart and Salieri, the play raises eternal questions about art, envy, perfection, but also about (not) coming to terms with one's own limits.” – reads the production’s synopsis.
Also on November 6, this time at 9 pm, audiences will be able to experience Albert Camus' The Misunderstanding, directed by Mihai Măniuțiu, in the studio space created on the theatre's main stage.
"It is my wish that the performance should be both moving as well as be an opportunity for the audience to reflect on the irredeemable, on the fatality that often dominates our lives, and on the way love or desire can be distorted. Love and desire can also become toxic, evil forces. This is the paradox that Camus elaborates in The Misunderstanding. "- notes Mihai Măniuțiu, the director of the production.
On Thursday November 7, the fifth day of the festival, at 7 pm, in the main hall of the Lucian Blaga National Theatre of Cluj, Eugène Ionesco's absurdist drama A Stroll in the Air will be performed by the Romanian company of Cluj. Directed by Gábor Tompa, the production will also be performed on November 14, also as part of the festival programme.
“I have not seen this Adrian Damian-Luiza Enescu scenographic duo for a long time, so efficient and complementary, impeccably molded to the essence of Tompa Gábor's ideas. It is a hard to forget design, like a visual emblem of this manifesto on art and humanity.” – writes theatre critic Marina Constantinescu about the production.
On Friday, November 8, from 5 pm and 9 pm, respectively, theatre lovers can enjoy the guest performance of the Miskolc National Theatre entitled Wild Duck, in the Studio. Henrik Ibsen's classic is staged by Gábor Rusznyák.
The story centres on Hjalmar Ekdal and his family, whose lives are disrupted by the appearance of an old friend, Gregers Werle. Gregers cannot bear to see Hjalmar as a shadow of his former self. He is determined to put his friend's life right by confronting him with the lie he has been living. The revelation of their shared past has fatal consequences for both fathers and sons...
Also on November 8, at 7:30 pm, Carmen Lidia Vidu will present the Romanian Diary. Timișoara, a multidisciplinary project focusing on the personal life stories of the characters. Viewers will gain insight into how we are shaped by our parents, friends, strangers and the city we live in. The production is also a call for social and community engagement. The production of the German State Theatre of Timișoara can be seen in the Main Hall.
On Saturday, November 9, at 8 pm, the Székesfehérvár Ballet Company will present the dance performance entitled Butterflies & Minute by Minute.
