ÉDES ANNA - DEZSŐ KOSZTOLÁNYI'S CLASSIC ON THE STAGE OF THE HUNGARIAN THEATRE OF CLUJ

On Wednesday, April 5, at 7 pm, the production based on Dezső Kosztolányi's novel Édes Anna will be presented in the Studio of the theatre. The play is directed by István Szabó K. and was adapted for the Cluj stage by dramaturg Ildikó Lőkös and István Szabó K..

At the press conference preceding the premiere, director István Szabó K., who collaborated with the Cluj company for the first time, said about the performance: "The time of Kosztolányi's novel is the 1920s, more precisely the year 1919, the period after the First World War, the chaos of Hungarian history and politics, when borders move back and forth, governments fall within a week or two. Communists come to power, then they leave, others take over from them, so everything changes very quickly. However, there is a problem in Édes Anna that is still valid today: there are many people who continue to live in oppression. There is a disease in our society, a disease of oppression that we cannot overcome. We need the feeling of being in control of the other. This story focuses on this group, and I think it's a universal theme that is still relevant today, and we need to address it."

Tibor Cári, the composer of the performance, said that his primary aim was not to reproduce the musical world of the 1920s, but rather to draw inspiration from it. "The important thing about the performance is that the music not only creates the atmosphere, but also conveys important messages, forms opinions and ironies, so it functions as a kind of choir, reminiscent of Greek choruses."

The title role of Édes Anna is portrayed by Eszter Román, with Andrea Kali, Zsolt Bogdán, Tamás Kiss, Ferenc Sinkó, József Bíró, Réka Csutak, Áron Dimény, Gizella Kicsid, Attila Orbán, Andrea Vindis, Csilla Albert, Csilla Varga, Melinda Kántor and Zsuzsa Tőtszegi playing additional roles.

Ildikó Lőkös, dramaturg, Artūras Šimonis, set designer, Bianca Imelda Jeremias, costume designer and Tibor Cári, composer, were the director's collaborators in creating the production.

Tickets for the April 5 premiere of Édes Anna are already sold out, while tickets for subsequent performances can be purchased at the theatre's box office (weekdays between 10 am and 2 pm) or online at www.biletmaster.ro.
