“...any man can be Shylock, it is not even necessary that he be an usurer. He is anyone who has been treated unfairly and who cannot – but who wishes to – settle the score for the injustice done to him. But, he is a small man, while his offenders are protected by laws. Once, he says: “Loss upon loss, and no satisfaction, no revenge, no sighs but of my breathing, no tears but of my shedding…” he is alone in the unfairness, excommunicated in his pain, thirsting for vengeance… There are thousands and thousands and thousands like him walking in our streets! Of course, he cannot exact his revenge, but someone else, because of somebody else’s greed, will in the end satisfy the cosmic justice with his retaliation. The Merchant of Venice places itself on the repertoire. It is one of the big traumatic subjects of this region. In my opinion, a society that notes who one is who can not be happy. Those who interest themselves in the birth-certificates of others are miserable.” Egon Savin
