The performance of There Is a CountrysideThe Poems of Sándor Kányádi recited and sung by Zsolt Bogdán and the Kaláka ensemble, will take place in three settlements in Szeklerland, namely Ditrău, Borsec and Miercurea Ciuc.

The dates of the performances are as follows: on August 22, at 6 pm, in Ditrău, at the Outdoor stage placed in the town center; on August 23, at 7 pm, in Borsec, at the Hármasliget Botanical Reserve; and on August 24, at 7 pm, in Miercurea Ciuc, at the Szekler Museum of Ciuc.

There has been no concert of the Kaláka ensemble since the 1980s without songs based on the poems of Kányádi. Uncle Sándor has become a paternal figure and friend to the group, becoming an instrumental presence in their lives. He has dedicated a number of poems to be turned into songs, they have traveled together a great deal, cherishing countless memories, anecdotes and stories related to him. The Lost Emissary, A Carved Little Poem, Someone Walks on the Treetops, Under the Southern Cross, Two Poplars, Couplet on the Red Tram, Apple, apple… and we could continue the long list of poems and songs cherished by so many.

In the 50th year since the creation of the Kaláka ensemble – which is made up by members Gábor Becze, Dániel Gryllus, Vilmos Gryllus, Balázs Radványi -, the group, alongside actor Zsolt Bogdán, decided to take “home” Sándor Kányádi’s poems to Szeklerland in these above-mentioned three locations, following their performances at the Vigadó Hall in Budapest and at the Hungarian Theatre of Cluj.

The editor and director of the production meant for adult audiences is Katalin Kőváry.

The tour was made possible by the support of the Government of Hungary.

Partners: Borsec City Municipality, the Ditrău and the Miercurea Ciuc Mayor's Offices.
