GÁBOR TOMPA STAGES IONESCO’S RHINOCEROS AT THE NATIONAL THEATRE OF TIMIŞOARA

Directed by Gábor Tompa, Eugène Ionesco's drama Rhinoceros will premiere on Wednesday, March 4 at 7 pm, at the National Theatre of Timişoara.

Eugène Ionesco was one of the most important theatrical creators of the 20th century, his absurd dramas portray social improprieties through warped life situations. In Rhinoceros, he highlights the inner workings of totalitarian dictatorships: the play’s protagonist is Bérenger, who follows the spread of the Nazi doctrine, namely the entire process of it infecting the human spirit, as well as society as a whole.

The main character is portrayed by Romeo Ioan, alonside the ensemble cast of actors: Ion Rizea, Ioana Iacob, Cristian Szekeres, Irene Flamann Catalina, Ana Maria Pandele Andone, Roberta Popa Ionescu, Matei Chioariu, Cătălin Ursu, Doru Iosif, Benone Viziteu, Costa Tovarnisky and Judit Reinhardt.

The creative team is also made up of composer Vasile Șirli, set designer Helmut Stürmer, costume designer Carmencita Brojboiu, choreographer Florin Fieroiu, and mask designer Ilona Varga-Járó.
