PRIMO – A GUEST PERFORMANCE IN ITALIAN AT THE HUNGARIAN THEATRE OF CLUJ

The Italian Cultural Center in Romania, with the support of the Italian Embassy in Romania and the Israeli Embassy in Romania, present the guest performance of PRIMO. The production directed by Giovanni Calò will be performed in Italian and will have Romanian surtitles.

The play is based on the autobiographical work entitled If This Is a Man by Primo Levi and will be performed by actor Jacob Olesen.

Primo Levi survived the Auschwitz concentration camp so he can talk about what had happened there, for what he had experienced should not and must not be forgotten. The profound literary value of his story, as well as the light but intense language of the work served as a guide in staging the production. The dialogues denote a strong theatrical language, while his character descriptions are crucial aids for the actor’s preparation.

As director Giovanni Calò has stated: “We strived to tell his story in the most direct way, while creating an intense atmosphere, thus helping the viewer to identify with the experiences of Levi and his late companions. We have tried to present his testimony with a sort of rational awe, with simple means and, where possible, in a light tone. To do this, however, we needed to pay special attention to the moments of everyday life, those of relaxation and dreaming, beyond the cruelty witnessed. Meanwhile, we have strived to preserve the humanity of the characters who have been destroyed by such cruelty, struggling to survive, who are still consumed by constant conflicts”.

Tickets can be purchased at the theatre’s ticket office on weekdays between 10 am and 2 pm, and online at www.biletmaster.ro.
