ARTISTIC AWARDS CEREMONY AT THE HUNGARIAN THEATRE OF CLUJ

The end of the calendar year meeting held on December 27 at the Hungarian Theatre of Cluj, also housed the artistic awards ceremony of the 2016/17 season. As director Gábor Tompa stated, he was pleased that, despite the difficult financial situation of the institution, the theatre managed to reward the company for its hard work with these awards. The Artistic Council of the Hungarian Theatre of Cluj includes the following members: director Gábor Tompa, artistic director András Visky, set and costume designer Carmencita Brojboiu, program director Kinga Kovács, actors Miklós Bács and Áron Dimény.

Based on the votes cast by the members of the Artistic Council, the following people received awards for their outstanding performances in the 2016/17 season: Éva Imre (for her performances in Rosmersholm and The Lower Depths), Júlia Laczó (for her performances in The Lower Depths and Homemade), Balázs Bodolai (for his performances in Rosmersholm and The Blind), Gábor Viola (for his performances in Rosmersholm and The Lower Depths), Ervin Szűcs (for his performances in The Lower Depths and Galoshes), Rita Sigmond (for her performances in Rosmersholm and Galoshes), Miklós Bács (for his performances in Rosmersholm and The Lower Depths), Péter Árus (for his performances in Galoshes and The Blind), Csilla Albert (for her performances in Galoshes, Homemade and The Blind), Andrea Kali (for her performances in Galoshes and Homemade), Gizella Kicsid (for her performance in Rosmersholm). Kinga Ötvös received a debut award for her performances in The Blind and Hormone. Árpád Ambrus, the theatre’s purchasing agent and driver received the technical award.

The Miklós Bánffy Prize, alongside the company prize went to Éva Imre, for her performance in the production of Rosmersholm. The Bánffy Miklós Prize will be awarded to the recipient on the evening of January 18, following the performance of Rosmersholm.

The Artistic Council awarded the Vlad Mugur Prize of the 2016/17 season to Yuri Kordonsky, for his staging of The Lower Depths. The award was founded in 2006 by the Hungarian Theatre of Cluj, in recognition of the work of artists who are not members of the company.
