The 6th edition of the Interferences International Theatre Festival organized by the Hungarian Theatre of Cluj will commence on Thursday, November 22. This year’s event will feature sixteen productions from thirteen countries around the globe.

The press conference preceding the festival started similarly to previous years, with a scene performed by the theatre students of the Babeş-Bolyai University, led by Enikő Györgyjakab, whose theme coincided with that of the this year’s festival: war.

Festival Director and the person who selected the productions included within the festival, Gábor Tompa, said that this year event intends to make audiences reflect on the changes that have taken place in the last hundred years, since the end of World War I. The performances featured in the festivals’ program raise important questions about the responsibility of the individual and the community alike: what can we do to enact change in a world that turned its back to dialogue? Most of the performances presented in the festival come from Central and Eastern European countries, since these regions were most affected by World War I.

The Cluj audiences will have the opportunity of experiencing the productions of such outstanding creators as Toni Servillo, Luk Perceval, Milo Rau, Eimuntas Nekrošius, Anna Badora, Gábor Tompa, Cezary Tomaszewski, Csaba Horváth, Balázs Benő Fehér, András Urbán, Attila Vidnyászky jr., Ilan Ronen, Adrian Sitaru, Klim Kozinsky and Stathis Livathinos. For most of the guest creators, it will be their first time showcasing their work in Cluj.

The schedule of the performances will be enriched also by complementary events: daily conversations with the guest creators will take place, alongside exhibitions, book launches, and concerts. Also, a General Assembly of the Union des Théâtres de l’Europe – attended by the leaders of member theatres - will be organized for the first time by the Hungarian Theatre of Cluj.

The festival’s co-organizer is the Corvineum Foundation, while its main financiers are the Ministry of Culture, the Cluj-Napoca City Hall and City Council. The event will benefit from the generous support provided by the Union des Théâtres de l’Europe, the Romanian Cultural Institute, the Department for Interethnic Relations, the Bethlen Gábor Fund, Energobit, the Romanian Association of Theatre Artists (UNITER), the Communitas Foundation.
