A THEATRICAL SHOWCASE ON THE OCCASION OF DIRECTOR ANDREI ŞERBAN’S 75TH BIRTHDAY

The Hungarian Theatre of Cluj will present - on three consecutive evenings - the highly successful productions directed by Andrei Şerban within the institution. The theatrical showcase intends to honor and celebrate the great director on his 75th birthday.

Andrei Șerban is not only a major figure of the Romanian and world theatre, but he is also a close friend of our company. Years after his iconoclastic Trilogy, we had the wonderful opportunity to work with him on our own ‘trilogy’, resulting in three multi-award-winning productions.

The showcase debuts on Thursday, June 21, at 2 pm, with an Open Discussion with the actors of the productions staged by Andrei Șerban, led by Doina Modola and Roxana Croitoru, entitled The Dream Trilogy. The public event will have a free entrance, and will take place in the Upstairs Foyer.

Starting with Thursday evening and ending with Saturday evening, three separate productions directed by Andrei Şerban will be presented to the public. Uncle Vanya, which had its premiere in 2007, has been in the Hungarian Theatre’s repertoire for the past 11 years, with close to 150 performances to date. Uncle Vanya will take place on Friday, June 22, at 7 pm.

Directed by Andrei Şerban in 2010, Cries and Whispers is the stage adaptation of Ingmar Bergman’s film. The production that traveled throughout the world, from Serbia to the Czech Republic and South Korea, will take place on Thursday, June 21, at 8 pm.

Hedda Gabler premiered in 2012 at the Hungarian Theatre of Cluj. According to the director, the play’s characters are the mirror images of today's individuals, who reflect the drama of unfulfilled human potential. The main question addressed by the production is: can one live without ideals? The performance will be presented on Saturday, June 23, at 7 pm, in the Studio Hall.
