THREE AWARDS FOR ROSMERSHOLM AT THE NATIONAL THEATRE REUNION OF PÉCS

The award ceremony of the 18th edition of the National Theatre Reunion of Pécs took place on the eve of Saturday, June 16, at the Kodály Center in Pécs, where the Hungarian Theatre’s production of Rosmersholm won three awards. Rosmersholm was awarded the prize for Best Performance, while Éva Imre took home the award for Best Actress, and Andriy Zholdak and Daniel Zholdak received the prize for Best Set Design.

At the award ceremony, Artistic and Managing Director Gábor Tompa stated that the production represented a landmark in the life of the Hungarian Theatre of Cluj, the actors being rejuvenated through it. Rosmersholm is tormenting, disturbing, uncomfortable, addressing the complexity of the human soul in a troubling manner. The conversation that followed the performance the next day was a real revelation, as the participants sought to understand and interpret the aesthetics of the performance, which represents a turning point in the reception of Rosmersholm and gives hope for the future of the production.

For Éva Imre, this award is a great distinction, as it recognizes her hard work during the two and a half months she prepared her role.

The 14 productions featured in the theatre reunion’s competition were selected this year by stage author, writer, director János Regős, as well as writer, poet, playwright and translator János Térey. The prizes were awarded by a panel of eight members, made up of actor Zsófia Szamosi, actor Péter Trokán, playwright Lilla Falussy, designer Judit Csanádi, writer Zoltán Rockenbauer, director István Szabó K., theatre critic Gábor Bóta, and choreographer Zoltán Zsuráfszky.

Our heartfelt congratulations to Éva Imre and all the creators of the production!
