THE BOURGEOIS GENTLEMAN – THE CURRENT SEASON’S LAST PREMIERE

The Hungarian Theatre of Cluj is preparing the last premiere of its 2017/2018 season, namely Molière's classic comedy, The Bourgeois Gentleman, staged Mihai Măniuţiu. The premiere will take place in the Main Hall on Sunday, June 10, at 7 pm. Tickets for the performance can be purchased at the theatre’s ticket office and online at www.biletmaster.ro. Next performances: Wednesday, June 20, Wednesday 27 June, both at 7 pm.

According to director Mihai Măniuţiu, the current production stays true to the genre indication written by Molière, namely, it is a comédie-ballet, placed in a contemporary setting. Măniuţiu imagined a performance that is meant to entertain its the audience, in the best sense of the word. Both the choreography of the play envisioned by Andrea Gavriliu that enhances the prose and the funny scenes of the production, as well as the music created by one of the founding members of Şuie Paparude, Mihai Dobre, are meant to support the entertaining aspect of the performance.

The story of the play revolves around Mr. Jourdain, a filthy rich bourgeois, who can afford to buy almost anything in the world. Still, he feels he is missing something: he wants to rise above his middle-class condition and become a cultivated and refined person, just as he imagines members of the high life as being. All the members of his entourage are using his desire to climb the social ladder, thus giving rise to numerous comic situations.

The main role of the performance is portrayed by Miklós Bács. The additional roles are played by: Emőke Kató, Éva Imre, Balázs Bodolai, Lóránd Váta, Csilla Albert, Gábor Viola, Lóránd Farkas, Róbert Laczkó Vass, Ferenc Sinkó, Szabolcs Balla, Attila Orbán, Áron Dimény, Andrea Vindis and Réka Csutak.

The creative team that aided in the staging of the production was made up of the director’s permanent collaborators: choreographer Andrea Gavriliu, set designer Adrian Damian, costume designer Luiza Enescu, composer Mihai Dobre and video designer Cristian Pascariu. Dramaturg: Kata Demeter, assistant director: Emőke Veres.
