THE MEETING – A PLAY DIRECTED BY ENIKŐ ESZENYI AT THE HUNGARIAN THEATRE OF CLUJ

Within the annual exchange of performances between the two theatres, the Comedy Theatre of Budapest will perform the The Meeting, directed by the head of the institution, Enikő Eszenyi. The production will take place on Wednesday, May 30, at 8 pm, at the Main Hall of the Hungarian Theatre of Cluj. Tickets can be purchased at the theatre’s ticket office and online at www.biletmaster.ro.

The Meeting is a cathartic work about confronting one’s past, the story of suffering between a young man and a woman, in which the two protagonists delve into the deepest layers of the human soul. However, the purpose for the encounter between the two main characters is not merely to evoke the past in a self-flagellating way, by reliving a tragedy, but is also a gesture of absolution and reconciliation. The main characters of the performance are portrayed by Enikő Börcsök and Dániel Király. Composer: László Vidovszky; set designer: Csaba Antal; costume designer: Bianca Imelda Jeremias; dramaturg: Enikő Perczel.

Péter Nádas wrote his drama "The Meeting" in 1979, which had its world premiere in 1985 at the Pesti Szinház. Nádas's voice and style of writing are unmatched, unique within the Hungarian dramatic literature.

Enikő Eszenyi began directing stage performances in 1991. Her directorial debut took place at the Budapesti Kamaraszínház, with the staging of Büchner’s Leonce and Lena, which subsequently won seven awards at the 1991 National Theatrical Encounter (Országos Színházi Találkozó), including the prize for best director. In addition to her directorial work abroad, she stages performances regularly at the Budapest Comedy Theatre (Vígszínház) and the Pesti Színház. Alongside the masterpieces of classical dramatic literature, she also directs contemporary plays and musicals. Her body of work has been recognized not only by numerous professional prizes and honors, but also with several state awards as well.
