BLACKSALT – A JAZZ CONCERT WITH LUCIAN BAN AND ABRAHAM BURTON

Romanian-born pianist from New York, Lucian Ban will perform at the Hungarian Theatre of Cluj alongside American tenor saxophone player Abraham Burton in a jazz concert entitled Blacksalt. The event will be held on Tuesday, May 29, at 8.30 pm in the Studio Hall. Tickets can already be purchased at the theatre’s ticket office or online at www.biletmaster.ro.

The musicians combine jazz and improvisation with traditional folk music from Transylvania and Belize, thus creating an original concept and sound. The two have been playing together since 2006, and have performed hundreds of concerts on either sides of the Atlantic, both as a duo and as members of the All Stars ELEVATION quartet.

Their two joint albums were launched at the Sunnyside Records record label in New York. On their 2016 album entitled Songs from Afar, one of the guest performers was Gavril Ţărmure, a Transylvanian folk singer.

Pianist Lucian Ban is one of the most renowned Romanian jazz musicians. He earned his fame by his unique piano sound heard on the New York stages, as well as by his participation in several excellent music projects and recordings. The Cluj-Napoca-born pianist, composer and arranger is currently living in New York and leads several bands (Tuba Project, Elevation, Sam Newsome & Lucian Ban). He released eight albums with American and European record labels, and in 2013 he released the album Transylvanian Concert at the record label of Keith Jarrett and Jan Garbarek, ECM Records, an album that brought him worldwide recognition.
