FOUR GUEST PERFORMANCES OF THE COMEDY THEATRE OF BUDAPEST (VÍGSZÍNHÁZ) FEATURED IN THE MAY SCHEDULE OF THE HUNGARIAN THEATRE OF CLUJ

Within what has by now become a traditional annual exchange of performances between the two theatres, the Comedy Theatre of Budapest (Vígszínház) will be once again performing in Cluj in the month of May. The theatrical institution led by Enikő Eszenyi will present four performances on the Cluj stage, including the highly acclaimed musical production of The Paul Street Boys.

The Paul Street Boys is one of the most striking works in Hungarian literature, speaking to both adults and young people. The grund is part of the common language and common thinking, we all remember the scene when the Redshirts steal Nemecsek’s favorite marbles, we remember the botanical garden, the war carried out on the grund and Nemecsek, who sacrificed himself for the grund and his companions. The Paul Street Boys musical directed by László Marton is yet another highlight of the series of productions at the Comedy Theatre of Budapest that aims to offer opportunities for Hungarian composers to stage new musicals. The performance will be presented twice on the Main Stage of the Hungarian Theatre of Cluj, on May 29, from 4 pm and 8 pm, respectively.

On May 30, from 8 pm, also on the Main Stage, audiences can view Péter Nádas’ drama The Meeting. The Meeting was written by Péter Nádas in 1979. Nádas's tone and writing style is inimitable, unique in the entire Hungarian dramatic literature. The Meeting is a cathartic work, that addresses the past, the story of suffering of a young man and a woman, in which the two protagonists sink into the deepest layers of the human soul and tell the world's most beautiful love story in the universal language born from the meeting between Nádas’ world and theater.

The Comedy Theatre of Budapest (Vígszínház) will also present two Studio Hall performances: the first based on György Dragomán’s novel Bonfire, which shows life’s shortcomings after Ceauşescu's fall through the perspective of a small teenage girl, Emma. All of the characters of the work’s stage version – directed by Armin Petras - are portrayed by the Vígszínház’s two actresses, Janka Kopek and Patrícia Puzsa.  The performance will take place in the Studio Hall on May 20, at 8 pm.

On May 30, at 5.30 pm, Miklós Vecsei H. will host a poetry night dedicated to the works of Attila József, entitled Tell Me, Attila, My Dear! in the Studio Hall of the Hungarian Theatre of Cluj. What does Attila József mean to us? We all know of his life. We all have our favorite Attila poem. We constantly reinterpret his verses as we go through our lives. However, we rarely think about the devastating passion and desire to love that lived within him. This is the starting point of Miklós Vecsei H.’s one-man poetry evening, in which he will attempt to present the poet's life, loves and poetry.

Tickets can be purchased at the theater’s ticket office, as well as online at www.biletmaster.ro.
