As a first production of the series inviting film directors into the theatre, creator Adrian Sitaru staged the theatrical adaptation of his film Illegitimate for the Hungarian Theatre of Cluj. This is the first encounter of film director Adrian Sitaru with the world of the theatre, his movie Fixeur being Romania’s proposal for the 2018 Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film Category.

The theatrical performance entitled Illegitimate is based on a version of the screenplay of the film with the same title, which had been screened at the 2016 Berlin International Film Festival, addressing the prequel, or the storyline that precedes the one presented in the film. The performance provides an insight into the life of a dysfunctional family during a Sunday lunch where every family member struggles with their own preconceptions and each of the members is right in their own way.

The peculiarity of the performance consists in the fact that it uses the technology of virtual reality for the first time in the history of the Hungarian Theatre of Cluj: the viewers will have the opportunity to simultaneously watch the performance using VR glasses, but also following the production without them. According to the director, using the VR technology, the viewer's attention is directed to the insecurity of our real-world sensation. During the creation of the production, the creator was interested in topic such as the relationship between illusion and reality, or the difficulties in perceiving truth as such.

According to the opinions expressed by the actors that take part in this performance, during the rehearsal process they have had the opportunity to work with theatrical and cinematic tools simultaneously, to experience the combination of the natural and simple approach with that of strict precision in their acting.
