STAGE MANAGER MASTERCLASS

The Hungarian Theatre of Cluj will hold a Masterclass in Stage Management between February 17 and March 22, 2018, also offering the possibility for participants to further collaborate with the institution subsequent to the successful completion of the masterclass.

Instructor

Judit László

Judit László was the Chief Stage Manager and Artistic Secretary of the Hungarian Theatre of Cluj between 1990 and 2005. Over the 15 years she has worked within the institution, she had been the Stage Manager for over 50 productions. She has collaborated with the following theatre directors: Vlad Mugur, Silviu Purcărete, Mihai Măniuţiu, Mona Chirilă, György Selmeczi, Miklós Tompa and Gábor Tompa.

Structure of the Masterclass

Theoretical and practical courses, performance attendance, periodic evaluations:

between February 17 and March 21, depending on the theatre's daily schedule

full-day courses with lunch break on weekends

  • Creating trust: the relationship between a Stage Manager and a Director, Actor, and technical staff
  • Tools: the Stage Manager's Copy (target, content, markup), checklist, etc.
  • Work schedules, tasks, responsibilities
  • Stage technology (sound, lighting, space)
  • Types of rehearsals and the rehearsal process
  • Preparing and carrying out performances
  • Conclusions

During the class and under the instructor's supervision, the participants will take part in the rehearsal process of The Merchant of Venice, directed by Gábor Tompa.
