JULIUS CAESAR WILL OPEN THE SEOUL THEATRE FESTIVAL

The Hungarian Theatre of Cluj’s performance of Julius Caesar, directed by Silviu Purcărete, will open on Friday the 17th edition of the Seoul Theatre Festival, in South Korea.

The international encounter that has been organized every autumn since 2001, is one of South Korea's and, in fact, Asia’s most prestigious cultural festivals.
Every year, the multidisciplinary event features the world's most prominent theater and dance performances, with the aim of promoting to South Korean audiences the diverse range of contemporary performing arts. The festival lasts for over a month, and takes place simultaneously at several venues. Sixteen companies from seven countries will arrive in Seoul for the 17th edition of the festival. In addition to ensembles from Greece, Ireland, Great Britain, France, Canada and South Korea, the Hungarian Theatre of Cluj is the only Hungarian-speaking company that had been included among the guests as well as being the only company invited from Romania. This is not the first participation of the Hungarian Theatre of Cluj to this perstigious South Korean event, for it also took part in the festival in 2011 with Richard III., directed by Gábor Tompa, and in 2013 with Cries and Whispers, staged by Andrei Şerban.

The title role of Julius Caesar, a production which premiered at the Hungarian Theatre of Cluj in 2015, is portrayed by Zsolt Bogdán, with other roles being played by Miklós Bács, Gábor Viola, Szabolcs Balla, Emőke Kató, Enikő Györgyjakab, Csilla Albert, Balázs Bodolai, Áron Dimény, Loránd Farkas, Alpár Fogarasi, Melinda Kántor, Sándor Keresztes, Róbert Laczkó Vass, Ervin Szűcs, Loránd Váta, and János Platz. Three performances of Julius Caesar will take place during the festival, on September 15, 16 and 17, at one of the festival's main venues, the ARKO Arts Theatre in Seoul.
