For the first time in its history, the Hungarian State Theatre of Cluj had been invited to participate at the Almagro International Classical Theatre Festival, in Spain. Our company will perform the play
Julius Caesar - directed by
Silviu Purcărete -, on July 28 and 29.
At its 40th edition, the
Almagro International Classical Theatre Festival is considered to be the most important world event for the presentation of classical plays (from the 17th and 18th centuries). The festival takes place at more than 25 different venues, featuring not only plays from the Spanish Golden Age, Elizabethan ones, or those of the Baroque playwrights pertaining to the French neo-classical age, but also showcases the works of the most important representatives of traditional Oriental dramatic literature (Noh and kabuki theatre alike). Almagro is a Spanish city located about 200 kilometers from Madrid, in the province of Castilla - La Mancha. The attendance of the Hungarian State Theatre of Cluj to the
Almagro International Classical Theatre Festival was made possible with the support of the
Romanian Cultural Institute.
The Hungarian Theatre of Cluj’s performance of
Julius Caesar is the only Hungarian language performance of the festival, being at the same time the only guest ensemble from Romania. The title role of the play initially presented in October 2015 is
Zsolt Bogdán, while the other cast members of the work are:
Miklós Bács, Gábor Viola, Szabolcs Balla, Emőke Kató, Enikő Györgyjakab, Csilla Albert, Balázs Bodolai, Áron Dimény, Loránd Farkas, Alpár Fogarasi, Melinda Kántor, Sándor Keresztes, Róbert Laczkó Vass, Ervin Szűcs, Loránd Váta and
