The Hungarian Theatre of Cluj established the
Vlad Mugur Award in 2006 and presents it to artists who are not members of the theatre’s company, but who have contributed to the realization of the theatre’s artistic aims with their outstanding artistic work. In previous years the Art Council of the theatre has given the award to theatre director
Mihai Măniuțiu (2006), set and costume designer
Carmencita Brojboiu (2007), choreographer
Vava Ștefănescu(2008), theatre director
Silviu Purcărete (2009), composer
Vasile Șirli (2009), mask designer
Ilona Varga-Járó (2009), theatre director
Andrei Șerban (2010), theatre director
Matthias Langhoff (2011), theatre director
Robert Woodruff (2012), and theatre director
Kinga Mezei (2013).
With the award, we would also like to remember Vlad Mugur, who directed at the Hungarian Theatre of Cluj such famous performances as
The Chairs,
The Venetian Twins,
The Cherry-Orchard,
The Lourcine Street Affair, and
Right You Are (If You Think You Are). All winners of the Vlad Mugur award are presented with an especially priceless art object, a piece of china created by
Helmuth Stürmer.
